[2025 Turing Award Announced: Developers of the World's First Quantum Key Distribution Protocol Honored]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports, on March 19, according to Caixin, the Turing Award, known as the 'Nobel Prize of Computing,' has been awarded to Charles H. Bennett, an IBM Fellow from the United States, and Gilles Brassard, a professor in the Department of Computer Science and Operations Research at the University of Montreal in Canada. The two are recognized as pioneers of quantum information science. Their most renowned achievement, the BB84 protocol, is the world's first quantum key distribution (QKD) protocol, marking the birth of quantum cryptography.
With the rapid development of quantum computing, traditional public-key encryption systems are facing severe challenges. Quantum communication (QKD) and post-quantum cryptography (PQC) have become the dual core pathways to ensuring the security of future digital communications. The collaboration between Bennett and Brassard began in 1979, reportedly when Brassard explained an idea to Bennett about using quantum mechanics to create 'unforgeable banknotes.'
