Argentine court orders nationwide blockade of Polymarket, accusing it of providing gambling services without permission According to BlockBeats, on March 17th, an Argentine court has ordered the nationwide blockade of the cryptocurrency prediction market platform Polymarket. According to the ruling on March 11th, Buenos Aires Court of First Instance No. 31 for Criminal, Police Violation, and Minor Offenses has requested the Argentine National Communications Regulatory Agency ENACOM to take measures to prevent users from accessing the Polymarket website and its related domains. The case was initiated by LOTBA (Buenos Aires City Lottery Bureau), the city's gambling regulatory agency. Juan Rozas, the local prosecutor in charge of gambling affairs, subsequently launched an investigation, accusing Polymarket of providing gambling services to Argentine users without authorization, in violation of the country's criminal law. The court ordered ENACOM to enforce the blockade through the Internet Service Provider (ISP) and report to the court or the gambling prosecutor's office in a timely manner in case of technical obstacles. In addition, the court also required Google and Apple to remove and restrict Polymarket's Android and iOS applications in the Argentine region, including access restrictions for existing users. Regulatory authorities have pointed out that the Polymarket platform lacks sufficient identity and age verification mechanisms, and theoretically, 'anyone, including minors, can place bets without regulation'. According to local media reports, the forecast market for Argentina's inflation data on Polymarket had previously been highly consistent with the data released by official statistical agencies, raising doubts about potential insider trading.
