Israeli journalist receives death threats from Polymarket users for reporting on battlefield incidents BlockBeats News: On March 16th, Israeli Times reporter Emanuel Fabian published an article stating that it has become a target of harassment and death threats from online gambling platform Polymarket users due to its accurate reporting on Iranian missile attacks. On March 10th, an Iranian ballistic missile hit the city of Bethermesh on the outskirts of Jerusalem. The reporter reported that the missile hit an open area without causing any casualties. In the following days, the journalist received a large number of emails and WhatsApp messages requesting him to revise his report, claiming that the actual debris dropped was from an interceptor missile. It is reported that Polymarket users have bet over $14 million on whether Iran will attack Israel on March 10th. According to platform rules, intercepted missiles are not considered as' attacks'. If journalists modify their reports, it will ensure that they win huge bonuses. Subsequently, the threat methods continued to escalate, with some people forging screenshots of journalist emails, and others pressuring and promising to split profits through their colleagues, ultimately evolving into direct death threats. A self proclaimed Haim threat stated that if journalists do not modify their reports resulting in a loss of $900000, they will invest no less than this amount to 'settle' the journalists. The journalist has reported the case to the police and the Israeli police are currently investigating. The journalist stated that their reporting will not change due to threats, but they are concerned that other journalists may find it difficult to uphold professional ethics if they are promised a share. Last month, Israeli reserve soldiers and civilians were prosecuted for using confidential information to place bets on prediction platforms.
