BTC is starting to go quantum-resistant
Quantum computers haven’t even been built yet, but Bitcoin developers are already fortifying the walls.
BIP-360 was just released, marking the first time in Bitcoin’s history that 'quantum resistance' has been officially added to the technical roadmap. The core move is pretty hardcore: completely removing Taproot’s key path spending and switching to pure hash commitment with P2MR (Pay-to-Merkle-Root). In plain language—when you spend Bitcoin in the future, your public key won’t even be exposed on-chain.
Quantum computers excel at cracking elliptic curve encryption, but SHA-256 hashes are basically immune to them. So BIP-360’s strategy isn’t about changing the encryption algorithm—it’s about ensuring your public key never appears in the attack surface.
Satoshi Nakamoto mentioned back in 2010 on the forum: if quantum computing becomes a reality, Bitcoin can migrate to stronger signature schemes. Sixteen years later, BIP-360 has finally turned those words into code.
Cointelegraph’s @DilipPatairya wrote a super clear in-depth analysis. He’s a veteran with 15 years of experience writing in blockchain and fintech, with solid technical breakdown skills. Highly recommend reading the original article.
