**["Pig-Butchering" Scam Leader Chen Zhi's Lawyer Files Motion in U.S. Court to Dismiss Bitcoin Seizure by Government]**
According to Bloomberg, this week, the lawyer representing Chen Zhi, alleged leader of a large-scale "pig-butchering" scam syndicate, filed a motion in New York federal court requesting the dismissal of the U.S. government's seizure of a batch of Bitcoin linked to him. The lawyer argued that the prosecution's accusations of Chen Zhi overseeing scam compounds lack specific evidence and are merely generalized descriptions of the overall situation in Cambodia. Additionally, the lawyer questioned the timeline of the cryptocurrency seizure, asserting that these Bitcoins could not be proceeds from fraud or money laundering.
In October last year, the U.S. Department of Justice announced the confiscation of 127,271 Bitcoins controlled by Chen Zhi, valued at approximately $15 billion at the time. Chen Zhi was stripped of his Cambodian citizenship and extradited to China in January this year. Following sanctions imposed by the U.S. and the U.K., over $1 billion in assets were frozen or seized across Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, and other regions. Human rights organizations have pointed out that after the closure of scam compounds, thousands of trafficked workers have flowed out of areas such as Sihanoukville, facing the risk of being trafficked again.
