CNN has confirmed that multiple sets of the THAAD system deployed by the US military in the Middle East (located in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates) have indeed been hit by Iranian missiles, and the core component AN/TPY-2 radar has been damaged. This should be the first direct attack on the THAAD system in recorded history. There are currently around 10 sets of THAAD systems deployed globally. As for the eyes of the THAAD system, the number of AN/TPY-2 radars is also very small, only a dozen or so, but the production cycle is very long, at least 30 months (usually taking more than 4 years from contract to delivery). Once the AN/TPY-2 radar is destroyed Without a large inventory available for immediate use, it is difficult to produce new radar directly in the short term. The only practical solution is to urgently transfer one from other theaters of war (such as Japan, South Korea, Guam, and domestic testing grounds), and the process of transfer, transportation, and re installation/calibration still takes several weeks to months. That's also why the media has reported in the past few days that the US military is relocating the THAAD system deployed in South Korea to the Middle East, apparently to replace the damaged AN/TPY-2 radar.
