[Canadian Resident Falls Victim to Consecutive Cryptocurrency Scams, Police Issue Warning] According to Deep Tide TechFlow on March 5, as reported by Decrypt, a resident of Nanaimo, British Columbia, Canada, became a victim of two cryptocurrency scams in succession. Late last year, the resident deposited approximately 5,000 CAD (around 3,600 USD) in cryptocurrency via an ATM and was subsequently defrauded by scammers under the pretense of a remote stock trading job. Earlier this year, the same victim fell prey to a "recovery service" scam impersonating the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) logo. The scammers claimed they could help recover approximately 60,000 CAD in "investment returns." Police have reminded the public that the RCMP will never contact individuals to notify them of discovered cryptocurrency accounts, nor will they collaborate with private companies to recover funds or request payment for investigative fees. Security experts have pointed out that scammers often repeatedly target victims who have already shown vulnerabilities, exploiting psychological mechanisms such as authority bias to commit fraud. Police advise the public to remain vigilant against unsolicited job opportunities or online information involving cryptocurrency.
