The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) submitted a regulatory explanatory document to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) today, clarifying how federal securities laws apply to specific cryptocurrency assets and related transactions. The document was released by the committee, indicating its belief that the interpretation has significant impact on the market. The document is independent of the proposed rules for the issuance of encrypted assets that have not yet been finalized by the SEC. Once approved by OIRA, three committee members will vote on it. The SEC spokesperson stated that the committee will review explanatory guidelines for the classification of encrypted asset tokens to ensure that investors and innovators have clear regulatory obligations.
