German Chancellor Mertz will hold talks with Trump to discuss tariff issues

German Chancellor Merkel plans to meet with US President Trump in Washington next Tuesday to seek a clear explanation of the US tariffs on EU goods. The EU assessment shows that Trump's new tariff policy may result in tariff levels on some EU export goods exceeding the upper limit stipulated in the bilateral trade agreement. Previously, after the US Supreme Court rejected Trump's use of emergency powers to impose tariffs, Trump announced a global 10% tariff policy and threatened to raise it to 15%. German government deputy spokesperson Sebastian Hilli said that the German government and the European Commission hope that the United States will comply with the agreement reached last summer to impose a 15% tariff on European imports.
