**[U.S. Senators Urge CFTC to Explicitly Ban Prediction Market Contracts Involving Death]**
According to a report by Golden Finance, six U.S. Democratic senators have sent a letter to Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) Chairman Michael Selig, urging him to explicitly "categorically prohibit" any prediction market contracts directly or strongly associated with individual deaths. They stated that such products "incentivize bodily harm or death" and pose a "dangerous national security risk."
The senators cited several examples, including Polymarket previously listing a contract on whether "Artemis II will explode," contracts concerning the fate of Venezuelan President Maduro, and contracts related to the Russia-Ukraine war.
Recently, the CFTC submitted legal documents to the federal appeals court emphasizing its "exclusive jurisdiction" over the U.S. commodity derivatives market. However, the agency has not yet publicly responded to the letter.
