[Dutch Regulator Bans Prediction Market Platform Polymarket from Operating in the Country] According to Deep Tide TechFlow on February 20, as reported by Decrypt, the Dutch Gambling Authority (Ksa) has issued a penalty order to Adventure One QSS Inc., the operator of the prediction market platform Polymarket, requiring it to immediately cease providing services in the Netherlands. The regulator stated that prediction markets constitute 'illegal gambling' activities under Dutch law. If non-compliance occurs, Polymarket will face a fine of €420,000 (approximately $462,000) per week, up to a maximum of €840,000 (approximately $924,000). Ella Seijsener, the Head of Supervision and Licensing at the Dutch Gambling Authority, noted that prediction markets are becoming increasingly popular in the Netherlands, but the type of betting offered by such companies is absolutely not permitted in the Dutch market, even for licensed entities. The regulator specifically highlighted the 'social risks' associated with prediction markets, such as their potential impact on elections.
