[CZ Shares Early Experiences: Worked at McDonald's at 14 with an Hourly Wage of 5.5 CAD, Started Learning Programming in High School]
Deep Tide TechFlow reports that on February 10, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao (CZ) stated in an interview with the All-In podcast that he worked at McDonald's at the age of 14. At the time, the minimum wage in British Columbia, Canada, was 6 CAD per hour, but McDonald's paid only 5.5 CAD due to a special exemption policy. He began learning programming in high school and was torn between the University of Waterloo and McGill University when choosing a college. He ultimately chose McGill University to study biology but switched to computer science after one semester. CZ avoided student loans by working part-time during summers and the academic year. He initially received small financial support from his father and sister but later became fully self-sufficient. In his twenties, he transitioned into the field of business development.
