Hong Kong police arrested 682 people in 'conspiracy to attack' operation, involved in HKD 44 million virtual currency money laundering case

Over the past three weeks, the Hong Kong police have launched a territory wide law enforcement operation codenamed "Assault", targeting fraud, cybercrime, and money laundering. A total of 682 people have been arrested, involving 580 cases with a total amount of HKD 620 million. Among them, the Cybersecurity and Technology Crime Investigation Bureau of the police cracked down on a local online dating fraud group and a gang that used virtual currency for money laundering in the operation codenamed "Battle.net". The gang defrauded 314 victims of a total of HKD 44 million in the past 16 months, with an average of approximately HKD 150000 per case.
