[French Inflation Falls to Five-Year Low, ECB Likely to Ignore It] Jin10 Data, February 3 – Due to falling energy prices, France's inflation rate in January unexpectedly slowed to a five-year low, far below the European Central Bank's 2% target. The French National Institute of Statistics stated that the Consumer Price Index rose 0.4% year-on-year in January, down from 0.7% in the previous month. This result is lower than the median forecast of 0.6% from a survey of 20 analysts. Among the surveyed analysts, only one predicted this outcome, marking the lowest growth rate since December 2020. Among the major economies in the Eurozone, France's inflation data has consistently been an outlier. Tuesday's data is not expected to concern European Central Bank officials this week. With price increases across the Eurozone nearing 2%, the market widely expects officials to keep the deposit rate unchanged. In fact, inflation rates in other parts of the Eurozone are closer to the ECB's target: last month, Germany's data was 2.1%, and Spain's was 2.4%.
