Massive cash robbery cases in Tokyo and Hong Kong, 2 cryptocurrency exchange shop employees arrested According to Caixin, within less than 24 hours from January 29 to 30, Tokyo, Japan, and Hong Kong, China—both known for their good public security—experienced consecutive robberies targeting large amounts of Japanese yen cash. The amounts involved were as high as 420 million yen (approximately 19 million RMB) and 51 million yen (approximately 2.29 million RMB), respectively. About six hours after the incident, police arrested three suspects attempting to leave Hong Kong at Hong Kong International Airport on charges of "robbery." Additionally, two employees (a 28-year-old local man and a 29-year-old mainland man) from a cryptocurrency exchange shop in Tsim Sha Tsui were apprehended for assisting in handling stolen funds. Preliminary analysis suggests that the Japanese company involved may have been using a method of carrying yen to Hong Kong to exchange for Hong Kong dollars, then purchasing duty-free goods to exploit tax differences between the two regions. This route may be directly related to the case.
