On January 28th, six US senators sent a letter to Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche questioning his decision to dissolve the Department of Justice's National Cryptocurrency Enforcement Team in April 2025. The senator pointed out that Todd Blanche held cryptocurrency worth approximately $158000 to $470000 at the time of making this decision, which may constitute a conflict of interest and violate federal law 18 USC § 208 (a). The letter states that illegal cryptocurrency activities will surge by 162% in 2025, mainly due to an increase in sanctioned entities receiving cryptocurrencies and the expansion of money laundering networks. Currently, Todd Blanche has become the subject of a complaint from the Office of the Inspector General of the Department of Justice.
