[Analysis: Chinese Victims in the Qian Zhimin Case Hoping for High Compensation Through Bitcoin Price Surge May Be Unrealistic] Odaily Planet Daily reports that the hearing for the Qian Zhimin Bitcoin civil recovery case was held this week. Judge Turner, who is presiding over the case, has explicitly stated that if multiple legal teams, in the absence of fundamental conflicts of interest, proceed with litigation based on the same factual foundation and similar legal issues but with different strategies and processes, the proceedings will be significantly delayed, legal costs will rapidly accumulate, and the portion of assets that victims hope to recover is likely to be eroded. The court's rational focus is not on the tragic differences between individual victims but on the controllability of the judicial process. Meanwhile, the UK prosecution (DPP) continues to maintain that its recommendation submitted to the court on October 15, 2025—reserving (provisioning) certain assets for the collective compensation arrangement for the numerous Chinese victims in the civil recovery process—is the most effective and realistic solution. This means that once the amount of such assets (funds) is reserved, it can be transferred in the future by cooperation between Chinese and British law enforcement agencies to the Chinese government to implement its specific victim compensation plan, compensating victims after verifying their identities and losses. Under this approach, it is unrealistic for Chinese victims to hope for a "satisfactory" high compensation through years of Bitcoin price surges. The compensation boundary implied by this proposal at most points to the actual losses already registered and confirmed by Chinese police. (Caixin)
