[Trump Sues JPMorgan Chase for Closing His Accounts for Political Reasons, Seeks $5 Billion in Damages] Odaily Planet Daily News – Former U.S. President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit on Thursday against JPMorgan Chase and its CEO Jamie Dimon, seeking $5 billion in damages. The lawsuit accuses the financial institution of closing his accounts for political reasons. The complaint, filed on Thursday, alleges commercial defamation and breach of implied contract. Additionally, it claims that Dimon violated Florida's Deceptive and Unfair Trade Practices Act. In response, JPMorgan Chase stated that it does not close accounts based on political or religious reasons. Previously, Trump had repeatedly called out JPMorgan Chase during his efforts to stop banks from denying financial services to customers based on ideological grounds. According to the lawsuit, JPMorgan Chase closed Trump's and his businesses' accounts approximately seven weeks after the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot by Trump supporters. At that time, Trump had already left office and had diminished political influence. The lawsuit states that JPMorgan Chase notified Trump of the account closures "without any warning or justification," causing him significant financial and reputational damage. (Jin10)
