Changpeng Zhao: Global unified crypto regulation is challenging, passporting system might be a feasible path
Changpeng Zhao @cz_binance spoke further at the 2026 Davos Forum, stating that there are significant differences in global crypto regulations, with most countries yet to establish comprehensive licensing systems.
He pointed out that countries like the UAE, Bahrain, and Kazakhstan are advancing forward-looking regulations, while the U.S. is pushing for market structure bills. However, due to differences in capital controls and taxation across nations, a global unified regulatory body is difficult to achieve. A passporting system might be a more feasible solution. Zhao mentioned that he is collaborating with multiple countries to explore regulatory mechanisms that balance innovation and consistency.
At the forum, Zhao also emphasized that blockchain has proven its significant value to finance and the global economy over the past 15 to 16 years. Binance now has 300 million users worldwide, with trading volumes surpassing those of the Shanghai and New York Stock Exchanges.
He is optimistic about three major future trends:
1. Asset tokenization: Currently in discussions with approximately 12 governments globally to promote related deployments;
2. Payment scenarios: Integrating crypto with traditional payment systems to drive growth;
3. The rise of AI agent roles: Cryptocurrencies will become the native payment method for AI to execute tasks automatically.
