A Massachusetts judge plans to ban Kalshi from providing sports prediction contracts

Massachusetts Superior Court Judge Christopher Barry Smith stated that a temporary injunction will be issued, requiring predictive market platform Kalshi to cease providing sports related event contracts in the state without obtaining a license under the Sports Gambling Act. The judge agrees with the state government's viewpoint that Kalshi's sports forecasting contract may violate the state's sports betting regulations. The state government needs to submit an injunction plan that does not affect existing contracts. Kalshi subsequently responded that the court is expected to officially order the suspension of related business this weekend, but can still apply for an extension or stay of execution. Last September, the state's attorney general sued Kalshi for alleged violations of the binary contract.
