European Commission spokesperson Olof Gill stated on the 19th that the EU will hold an emergency summit in Brussels, Belgium on the 22nd to discuss issues such as US President Trump's announcement to impose tariffs on European countries opposing US acquisition of Greenland, and to evaluate possible countermeasures that the EU may take. Gill stated that contacts and communication between the EU and the US are still ongoing at various levels, and the EU is currently in intensive consultations with member states on response measures. Gill emphasized that the EU will make every necessary effort to safeguard its own interests and is prepared to respond to US tariff actions.
