Matt Hougan: Bitcoin prices are more correlated with avocado prices than with stocks
On December 9, Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan stated that Bitcoin's rolling 30-day correlation with stocks over the past 10 years is only about 0.2. This means Bitcoin prices are more correlated with avocado prices than with stocks. Meanwhile, Bitcoin's correlation with bonds and commodities is almost zero. He believes the media only observes Bitcoin during stock market crashes, leading to a misconception of high correlation between the two. This low correlation stems from Bitcoin being in a phase of 'one-time asymmetric capital inflow,' with its price driven by unique factors such as regulatory progress and ETF launches. He predicts that while correlation may increase slightly in the future due to policy reasons, it will still remain low.
