As part of our recovery after Hurricane Melissa, the National Housing Trust (NHT) has put strong support in place for affected families.
Since November 4, 2025, the NHT has offered hurricane relief loans of up to $3.5 million to help contributors repair and strengthen their homes. These loans are already being approved and paid out.
The NHT also introduced a six-month mortgage moratorium, from November 2025 to April 2026, for homeowners in the worst-affected parishes. This has given about 30,000 families a break from mortgage payments. Requests from other parishes are being reviewed individually.
In addition, grants of up to $500,000 are available to contributors whose homes were damaged, based on assessment. Jamaicans can receive support from either the NHT or the Government’s ROOFS programme, but not both.
The NHT is also financing 2,500 pre-built modular homes, with the first 500 arriving by mid-February. These homes will go to the most vulnerable families who cannot afford to rebuild on their own.(Andrew Holness)
