[South Korean Official: If Court Ruling on Trump's Tariffs is Unfavorable, South Korea Will Seek the "Best" Response Plan]
Jin10 News, January 15 - A senior South Korean official stated on Wednesday that if the U.S. Supreme Court rules that President Trump's broad tariff measures targeting specific countries are unconstitutional, South Korea will seek the "best" response plan and closely monitor the actions of other countries. The official emphasized that South Korea is preparing for "all possibilities."
The official had originally planned to return to South Korea that day but later postponed the flight to study the potential impact of an announcement signed by Trump on Wednesday. The announcement stipulates a 25% tariff on certain semiconductor products used in artificial intelligence.
He stated, "While observing how other countries that have signed (trade) agreements with the U.S. respond, (South Korea) needs to make the most appropriate judgment based on the actual situation."
The minister added that during his visit to the U.S., he sensed the Trump administration's "firm" determination. Even if the court rules against the tariff policy, they will use all available means to maintain their tariff measures.
