Continued investment in national security, including leadership, training, intelligence, technology, and operational capacity, is producing clear results in public safety.
This afternoon, I met with members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force, St. Catherine South Division, where I received a comprehensive police update from Senior Superintendent (SSP) Gray, Commanding Officer for the division.
While sadly 13 murders have been recorded nationally in the first 13 days of the year, the St. Catherine South Division has recorded zero murders since the start of the year.
The update included details on the peaceful surrender and arrest of a wanted gang leader, who was taken into custody within the division. These operations underscore the role of intelligence-led policing, professionalism, and lawful engagement.
We also discussed ongoing efforts to disrupt the illegal firearms trade, strengthen border and port security, and ensure accountability within the security forces. These actions form part of a broader national approach focused on public safety, public order, and the protection of life and human rights.
Every life lost is a matter of concern, and the Government remains committed to encouraging peaceful surrender, strengthening the justice system, and providing lawful pathways for our young people.
I commend SSP Gray and the members of the St. Catherine South Division for their service, discipline, and dedication as we continue working to secure our communities and protect the Jamaican people.(Andrew Holness)
