SEC Chairman says it remains to be seen whether to confiscate Venezuela's Lirabit coins

The Chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), Paul Atkins, stated in an interview with Fox Business that it remains to be seen whether US authorities will confiscate the bitcoin reportedly held by Venezuela. Regarding the report that Venezuela holds $60 billion worth of Bitcoin (approximately 600000 BTC), Paul Atkins stated that he does not participate in the relevant decision-making and that the handling power lies with other government departments. Currently, multiple blockchain analysis institutions have not confirmed the claim that the country holds $60 billion in cryptocurrency. In addition, the US Senate Banking Committee plans to review the Digital Asset Market Transparency Act (CLARITY) this Thursday, which aims to give the Commodity Futures Trading Commission more regulatory authority over digital assets, but may be postponed due to factors such as the 2026 midterm election campaign.
