Sources have revealed that US prosecutor Jeanine Pirro's Washington office has launched an investigation without prior notice to the Treasury Department, senior White House officials, or the Department of Justice. Bessen believes that Powell's stance is more firm and he may not resign when the president appoints a new Federal Reserve chairman.
