[Meta Plans to Cut Metaverse Team Investment to Save Funds for VR Glasses Business]
Jin10 News, January 13 – According to The New York Times, three informed employees revealed that Meta Platforms (META.O) is considering layoffs in a branch of its Reality Labs division focused on "metaverse" operations. The layoffs could begin as early as next month, affecting 10% to 30% of the team. This team is primarily responsible for VR headsets and VR-based social networks. Reality Labs consists of the metaverse division and the wearable devices division. Sources indicate that management plans to redirect the funds saved from the layoffs into the AR glasses project. In 2021, Meta collaborated with Ray-Ban to launch AR glasses, which have already surpassed the company's internal sales targets. Insiders stated that Meta is reassessing its investments in the metaverse, and within the metaverse division, executives are considering significant cuts to VR-related positions.
