The past couple of days, Twitter's product lead explained the real reason behind the overall decline in traffic on CT (Crypto Twitter). Since he still holds the title of advisor for Sol, it sparked huge controversy, and he later deleted the original post.
His main point was: the drop in CT traffic isn’t due to algorithm bias, but rather the backlash caused by a massive amount of inefficient interactions, with tons of accounts churning out content spam in bulk.
According to official data, the average user’s daily attention span is extremely limited, reading only 20-30 posts on average.
Several advertisers around me have already told me that Twitter ads and promotions have terrible conversion rates. I suspect it’s largely because the content isn’t filling up with quality material.
CT has long been dominated by the "boosting accounts with fake engagement" strategy, leading to countless accounts posting hundreds of worthless pieces of content daily. These actions haven’t brought any incremental value to the platform.
One of the reasons I’ve always disliked Kaito is this—founders are making bank, agencies are making bank, KOLs are making bank, but the overall ecosystem is being severely damaged. The typical mindset of some people is, "as long as I’m comfortable, who cares if chaos follows after I’m gone."
I think the next type of content Twitter might crack down on heavily could be AI-related content.
