[Trump Tariffs Impact Export Landscape, Canada’s Trade Focus Shifts Toward China and UK] Jinshi Data, January 8 – New data shows that Trump’s tariff policies are reshaping Canada’s trade flows. October trade data indicates that Canada’s export share to the United States dropped to 67.3%, the lowest level since the pandemic. This marks the second-lowest share in the past decade and the third time the total share has fallen below the 70% threshold in 2025. Year-to-date data for 2025 shows that only 72.4% of Canada’s exports went to the United States, whereas this traditional share typically remained between 75% and 80%. Statistics Canada data also reveals that exports to the U.S. in October fell by 3.4% compared to the previous month and dropped by 6.9% year-on-year. Strong growth in exports to China and the UK offset the year-on-year decline, reflecting market demand for energy products and precious metals.
