Today is the last day of 2025. The 21st century has already passed 25 years. At this moment, humanity is equidistant from the millennium and the midpoint of this century. This is a structural symmetry point. On one side, we see the inertia of 20th-century finance and institutions continuing. On the other side, the highly coupled systems of the 21st century are fully emerging, with capital, information, and risk accelerating simultaneously. The past 25 years have felt like a global-scale trial run. Efficiency has been amplified. Stability has been weakened. Wealth has expanded, while the demand to combat inflation and institutional friction has grown. In this environment, blockchain systems have gradually transitioned from fringe experiments to structural variables. Bitcoin has increasingly taken on the role of digital gold. Its fixed supply, immutability, and global transferability make it a tool to counter long-term monetary expansion. In the U.S. market, the holdings of Bitcoin ETFs have already surpassed those of gold ETFs, signaling a stance through capital allocation. Blockchain has further transformed the way assets exist, with settlement and accounting shifting from closed ledgers to public ledgers. DeFi has turned lending, trading, and clearing into composable financial modules. Real-world assets are starting to go on-chain—treasuries, funds, and income rights are being broken down into verifiable, transferable digital certificates. Finance no longer relies solely on institutional credit but increasingly on executable rules. These innovations have expanded the boundaries of financial freedom while simultaneously raising the requirements for system reliability. Standing at the 2025 time marker, financial freedom can only be realized under specific conditions: Can the system remain functional under extreme stress? Can assets be fully funded over the long term and independently verified? Is custody truly optional, and can assets be migrated at any time? When rules, jurisdictions, and cycles change, is there an exit path? These conditions define the current boundaries of financial freedom. Against this backdrop, OKX has chosen to focus on the infrastructure layer, and I really appreciate that. Emphasizing system stability during extreme market conditions to address the risks of highly coupled markets. Responding to the need for asset verification through continuous reserve disclosures. Connecting centralized trading, DeFi ecosystems, and real-world financial channels to maintain asset liquidity both on-chain and off-chain. These practices don’t provide ultimate answers. They bring financial freedom back from narratives to structure and engineering. At this symmetry point, individuals cannot determine the direction of the era. Placing assets and time into structures capable of withstanding inflation, cycles, and institutional changes remains a practical choice in reality.
