[Chairman of the Russian State Duma Financial Market Committee: Cryptocurrency will never become currency in Russia, only an investment tool]
According to DL News, Anatoly Aksakov, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Financial Market Committee, stated that lawmakers support the central bank's opposition to the use of cryptocurrency for payments between individuals and companies. Aksakov said: 'We must understand that cryptocurrency will never become currency in Russia; cryptocurrency can only be used as an investment tool. When payment is required, it must be made exclusively in rubles.'
Aksakov made these remarks at a time when, despite resistance from the central bank, the government is preparing to regulate the industry due to the rising adoption rate of cryptocurrency within Russia. The country's central bank has repeatedly called for a complete ban on cryptocurrency, while the Ministry of Finance prefers to regulate exchanges and tax traders' profits. Both sides are unwilling to compromise on this issue, proposing competing bills to either ban or legalize the cryptocurrency-related industry. These bills ultimately failed to pass, and after a four-year stalemate, they remain stuck in the State Duma Committee.
