As at December 8, 2025, Jamaica has recorded 463 fewer murders compared to the same period last year, putting out murders total at 632. That is a 42.5% reduction, with projections showing we will finish the year with fewer than 700 murders. Shootings are also down 32%. These are numbers we have not seen in over thirty years. This progress is the direct outcome of sustained anti-gang operations, legislative reforms, stronger intelligence coordination, and the disciplined application of the Clear-Hold-Build strategy within the Zones of Special Operations. Even with these historic gains, we remain alert to new risks. Hurricane Melissa has created vulnerabilities, displacement, economic shock, trauma, and openings for criminal exploitation. This is why the ZOSOs are more important now than ever, they protect communities from regression and secure the gains Jamaicans have worked so hard to achieve. Security is a continuous building exercise, and the Government will continue to invest in the Zones of Special Operations. The data from the Jamaica Constabulary Force, as of December 6, shows a 38% reduction in murders and a 48% reduction in shootings across all ZOSOs for the comparative period. We are therefore seeking the continued support to extend all seven zones, Mount Salem, Denham Town, August Town, Greenwich Town, Norwood, Parade Gardens, and Savanna-la-Mar. This extension is both a validation of our success and a statement of our resolve. Jamaica has turned a corner. We are no longer managing violence, we are breaking its back.(Andrew Holness)
