SlowMist Yu Jian: Zcash doesn’t enforce default privacy, its balanced design is more regulatory-friendly
SlowMist founder Yu Jian shared a post saying that a high percentage of Zcash transactions can be tracked, which isn’t anything new. Back in the previous cycle when privacy coins were trending, Zcash was already like this. It doesn’t enforce default privacy but gives users the option. For example, addresses starting with 'z' are fully private, while those starting with 't' are transparent and traceable.
This design makes Zcash more understandable to regulators compared to privacy coins like Monero (XMR), which enforces default privacy. On mainstream platforms, most Zcash addresses start with 't', showing that the group truly concerned about privacy is very, very small. Catering to regulation seems to be the way forward for platforms. Compared to the hardcore Monero, Zcash’s balanced privacy design might allow it to go further.
