Lombard Takes Over BTC.b: Avalanche's Core Asset Integrated into Cross-Chain Bitcoin
Lombard @Lombard_Finance has released a major technical announcement: Avalanche's most mainstream cross-chain Bitcoin, BTC.b (market cap around $550M), will fully migrate to Lombard's technical architecture.
This means BTC.b is no longer just an asset of Avalanche; it will become part of Lombard's cross-chain ecosystem, sharing institutional-grade security standards.
■ Seamless Migration, Upgraded Benefits
For regular users, this is the smoothest upgrade:
Zero Action: No action is required for BTC.b in your wallet. Your address remains the same, your balance remains the same, and your DeFi positions (Aave/GMX) are unaffected.
New Capabilities: After the migration, BTC.b will be accessible across multiple chains (Ethereum, Solana, MegaETH, etc.) and can be minted directly via the Lombard App @Lombard_Finance, no longer limited to the Avalanche Bridge.
■ From "Single-Point Defense" to "Institutional Consensus"
The old BTC.b relied on SGX Enclaves and the Warden network, while the new architecture will be managed by the Lombard Security Consortium:
✅ Decentralized Validation (Consortium): Consensus validation will be handled by a consortium of 15 top-tier institutions, including OKX, Galaxy, and Wintermute, replacing the original Warden network.
✅ Private Key Management (HSM): Introducing Cubist's Hardware Security Module (HSM), where nodes are only responsible for signing and can never access the underlying private keys, eliminating single-point failure risks.
✅ Dual Verification: Every cross-chain transaction will undergo dual independent verification by Chainlink CCIP and Cubist Bascule, ensuring on-chain assets are strictly pegged 1:1 to native BTC.
