Big bro's perspective might resonate with many of you. From what I know, in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, the supervision over VPN usage isn't too strict. One reason is that there are too many people to monitor, and another is that as long as you’re not posting any radical opinions, it’s generally not a big issue. But this doesn’t mean 'the law won’t punish the masses,' it’s just that they can’t keep up with everything.
However, in some 'smaller' cities, this can be quite risky. I saw a YouTube creator share their experience of being repeatedly invited for 'tea' because of their blog, and even getting fined for VPN usage. Back then, they were in Hangzhou.
Now, they’ve moved to Thailand to live.
