Upbit CEO publicly apologizes: confirms asset loss of approximately 44.5 billion Korean won, suspended deposits and withdrawals
On November 28th, Upbit CEO Wu Jingxi issued an apology letter and will report the cyber attack incident to the relevant departments in South Korea in accordance with relevant laws and regulations, and investigate the cause and scale of the incident. Upbit analyzed a large number of public transaction records on the chain and discovered a security vulnerability that led to the inference of private keys, which has now been fixed. Upbit has suspended the recharge and withdrawal of digital assets and is currently tracking and freezing digital assets that have been transferred outside the Upbit platform. Upbit has confirmed that approximately 44.5 billion Korean won in assets have been damaged, including approximately 38.6 billion Korean won in user assets, of which approximately 2.3 billion Korean won has been frozen, and approximately 5.9 billion Korean won in self owned assets. Upbit reiterates that it has fully compensated users with the assets held by Upbit. Upbit is currently undergoing a comprehensive renovation of its wallet system, and once the system stabilizes, the recharge and withdrawal of digital assets will be immediately restored.
