[White House Reviews Proposal for U.S. to Join Global Crypto Tax Framework CARF]
According to Decrypt, the U.S. White House has begun reviewing a proposal submitted by the Treasury Department to join the 'Crypto-Asset Reporting Framework' (CARF). This framework would allow the IRS to access data on overseas crypto accounts held by Americans.
CARF was initiated by the OECD in 2022 with the goal of combating offshore tax evasion through automatic information sharing between countries. Dozens of nations, including the G7, have already signed on. The Trump administration supported the proposal, believing it would curb the outflow of crypto assets and ensure U.S. regulations align with international standards. The global implementation of CARF is expected to begin in 2027.
