November 11, 2025, marking Double 11. This year, instead of seeing e-commerce platforms flooding our feeds with jaw-dropping sales figures, we’re greeted with the news of Warren Buffett’s retirement, which quickly shot to the top of trending topics. Here are four pieces of wisdom from Buffett’s final shareholder letter: 1. The second half of life can be even more exciting. Don’t beat yourself up over past mistakes—learn from them, look ahead, and remember, it’s never too late to improve. 2. Find the right role models and follow them. If you want to become a certain kind of person, learn from those who embody that. 3. Success isn’t about money, fame, or power. It’s about making the world a better place by helping others. True greatness lies in kindness. 4. Remember, a chairman and a cleaning lady are both human beings. You are equal in dignity. Print out suggestions #1 and #2 and stick them by your bedside. Recite them every morning when you wake up and every night before you sleep. Buffett didn’t become wealthy until after 50. Starting now, we all still have plenty of opportunities—everyone here is younger than Buffett was back then. As for #3, I’d say take it with a grain of salt. Kind people can be taken advantage of by bad people. Stay kind, but don’t let your kindness become a tool for others to exploit you. Be kind with principles. And #4, well, in the material world, a chairman enjoys boundless wealth, flowers, applause, and praise, while a cleaning lady might barely scrape by through hard labor. But perhaps one day the chairman’s glory will fade, or they might even end up in prison, while the cleaning lady can still enjoy the sunshine, rain, and the freedom of life every single day. Let’s reflect on the words of Sixth Patriarch Huineng: ‘The lowest of people may possess the highest wisdom, while the highest of people may lack true wisdom.’
