[Nearly $60 Million in Settlement Fees: U.S. Tech Giants Race to Settle Lawsuits with Trump]
Reported by Golden Finance, according to The Wall Street Journal, court documents reveal that YouTube has agreed to pay $24.5 million to settle a lawsuit filed by former U.S. President Donald Trump in 2021 against the company and its CEO. The lawsuit stemmed from YouTube's ban on Trump's account following the Capitol Hill riots. This settlement makes YouTube, a subsidiary of Google (GOOG.O), the last major tech giant to reach a settlement with Trump.
Months after leaving the White House, Trump filed lawsuits against three social media platforms. According to previous reports, Meta Platforms agreed in January to pay $25 million (most of which will be allocated to the Trump Presidential Library Fund), while the X platform agreed to pay $10 million (with a significant portion directly paid to Trump).
Court documents indicate that Trump will receive $22 million from the settlement funds, which will be donated to the nonprofit National Mall Trust Fund. The donation is specifically earmarked for constructing a banquet hall at the White House modeled after the style of Mar-a-Lago.
