Here I go offending people again: @SentientAGI is basically Polygon's shadow project. To clear everything up, let’s first introduce a key figure: Sandeep Nailwal. Who is Sandeep? He is: - The current de facto leader of Polygon (as of June this year, Sandeep was appointed as the first CEO of the Polygon Foundation). - The only remaining original co-founder of Polygon (the other two co-founders left Polygon one after another in 2023). What role does Sandeep play in Sentient? According to Rootdata, Sandeep is a "core contributor" to Sentient. But in last year’s press release about Sentient’s funding round, many media outlets described Sandeep as a "co-founder" of Sentient. Even more interesting, former Polygon VP of Investments Sachi Kamiya has also joined Sentient as BD Director. This kind of personnel movement is hard to call a coincidence. In comparison, Sentient’s two founders have a relatively low profile (also Indian): - Himanshu Tyagi: Associate Professor at the Indian Institute of Science. - Pramod Viswanath: Professor of Engineering at Princeton University. Before Sentient, the two professors co-founded another project called Witness Chain. While it’s still operational, Witness Chain clearly doesn’t have much market visibility. The official Witness Chain Telegram group only has 103 members. From a business logic perspective, this arrangement is actually quite smart: Polygon needs to establish a presence in the AI space. By using an "independent" project format, they can maintain strategic flexibility while mitigating risks. It’s essentially a replica of the "internal incubation + independent operation" model often used by big companies.
