Looking at Buffett's case of investing in Coca-Cola (1988-89), I found the projected data for Coca-Cola's international growth back in 1988. At that time, China's per capita consumption of Coca-Cola products was almost negligible—only 1/700th of the U.S., and even far lower than the Philippines/Indonesia. All I can say is, Deng Xiaoping really had it tough. Even now, with the economy slowing down, it's like someone who already made 100x returns feeling the anger and frustration of a 50% pullback.
