Most military consensus is that if they close Hormuz, we cannot protect it without boots on the ground. The Strait is narrow enough that insurgent strikes from the shore can take down ships. Long range air strikes can’t stop that. A Hormuz closure if effective is the tipping point for US/allied ground forces. This is why the idea of a “one and done” strike is so misguided and why he had a duty to seek congressional approval. You can’t destabilize a regime’s bomb their nuclear sites and walk away expecting peace and stability to follow.
