A few days ago, @ Arbitrum_cn @ Arbitrum just completed its own Pectra upgrade, codenamed ArbOS 40 Callisto. Actually, we talked about it before about how to keep L2 and ETH L1 synchronized.
As is well known, the Pectra upgrade for ETH L1 was launched on May 7th, but the launch of L1 does not necessarily mean that L2 will automatically have these new features.
So, L2 players like Arb also need to upgrade their Pectra in order to maintain a consistent user experience with ETH L1.
Of course, some of the proposals in the Pectra upgrade, such as the node limit of 32 → 2048 for the Staking section, are not useful for Arb.
But there are still some proposals, such as EIP-7702: Smart Wallet Account Abstraction; EIP-2537: On chain BLS signatures, etc. These EIPs are quite important for Arb.
Your current head applications like Arb are focused on Perps, such as GMX, Ostium, Aark, and Rho. Arb also needs some other types of applications to change the situation.
After the abstract account is launched, it can achieve gas free trading, batch trading, social registration, etc., all of which belong to solving the last mile problem.
Next is on chain BLS signature, which can be used to achieve faster and cheaper BLS signatures and zero knowledge proofs. Although L2 is already cheap and fast enough, it is not too much and can be faster and cheaper.
I remember someone mentioned before that you could run an L2 for $50, but that was just the most basic L2.
If you want to run a good L2, you still need to put in a lot of effort to maintain it. The upgrade of ETH L1 mainnet requires not only redevelopment and retesting of L2, but also re auditing, which is a cost.
Otherwise, if some tail L2s do not keep up with the main network updates every time, they may even create a sense of disrepair and become a dangerous building in the era of crypto punk.
