Last time we talked about Based Rollup, I left a tail and said we would talk about Booster Rollup (BR) next time. In fact, Booster Rollup has a bigger appetite, and its idea is to directly clone all contracts of ETH L1 in a 1:1 mirror. As is well known, different Rollups are still isolated islands to this day. So although the applications on L1 urgently need to be expanded in place, L2 only feels like opening a branch for them, and the headquarters is still on L1. So the goal of Booster Rollup is to make L1 and all L2 look and feel exactly the same to users, in the form that all smart contracts automatically have the same contract address on L1 and all Booster Rollup L2. This is also friendly to developers. Think about it, developers don't need to redeploy smart contracts in L2, they just need to deploy smart contracts to L1 to complete it. Each decentralized application is ready to use out of the box and automatically supports multiple BR L2. Developers who have worked on multiple blockchain applications should have experienced the pain of having to update each chain one by one every time an update is released. But based on BR, it can be done in one place, and all L2 based on Booster scheme will automatically follow the latest version on L1. However, this also has a drawback, which is the need to disable contract deployment on L2: it is necessary to ensure that L2 maintains a mirror image of L1 in all situations. This idea was first proposed by Brecht @ Brechtpd, the developer of L2 Taiko @ taikoxyz, and they also added the Based Rollup discussed last time on this basis, so it became BBR Based Rollup is the process of transferring the sorting authority of Rollup from L2 back to L1; Booster Rollup is to make Rollup's contract and L1 completely mirror identical. In this way, when the two are stacked together, with the same sorter and contract address, Taiko is directly transformed into a small Ethereum like entity to some extent 😂。 This idea is still very good, of course, it is still in the development stage and has not been fully developed yet. In fact, for L2, attracting investment is a very difficult task. It seems that hiring Sushi and Izumi is relatively simple, and hiring Curve is not difficult either. Hiring Uni starts to increase the intensity, while hiring AAVE requires a considerable cost. Old line L2 players like Arb also need Kaito to stimulate developers, OP wants to put Stack directly in the hands of developers, and the Base team is starting to learn Chinese on Twitter. With such intense competition, deploying every DeFi on every L2 again doesn't seem elegant enough. So Taiko's exploration of the Booster Rollup, which is a "L1 deployment L2 automatic following" approach, seems to be a representative way of "taking a different approach".
