Uniswap responds to Bancor's patent infringement lawsuit, stating that its allegations have "no legal basis" According to The Block, Uniswap responded to Bancor's patent infringement lawsuit, stating that the allegation is "without legal basis". Bancor filed a lawsuit in the Southern District Court of New York on May 20th, accusing Uniswap Labs and the Uniswap Foundation of unauthorized use of their Constant Product Automated Market Maker (CPAMM) technology for eight years. A spokesperson for Uniswap Labs stated that the Uniswap protocol code has been open sourced for many years, and filing such a lawsuit at a critical stage of DeFi development is a waste of resources. The CEO of the company, Hayden Adams, referred to it on social media as "the dumbest thing I've ever seen" and stated that he will wait for the legal team to win the case. The lawsuit has sparked strong reactions from the crypto community, with most criticizing Bancor for violating the DeFi open source spirit, but some also point out that Uniswap itself has used a commercial source code license (BSL) to restrict code forks. This controversy is happening during a period of dramatic changes in the US crypto regulatory environment, involving the first significant lawsuit involving patent rights in the DeFi field.
