BlockBeats News: On May 21st, according to Decrypt, an American tourist lost over $123000 in cryptocurrency in a suspected premeditated theft in the West End of London, after briefly staying in the city and going out for a night out.
Jacob Irwin Ciline from Portland, Oregon called an Uber after leaving the nightclub The Roxy in Soho at around 1:30am on May 9th, during a two-day stopover.
The police stated that a driver learned his name from the application and intercepted him at the scene. Subsequently, Irwin Line applied to view the closed-circuit television surveillance footage of the nightclub, which showed him riding a dark colored sedan instead of the Toyota Prius displayed on his Uber app. The driver then handed him a cigarette, presumably containing a sedative.
Under the influence of drug effects, Irwin Line accidentally revealed the unlock password for his phone and allowed the other party to access his encrypted account, after which he was abandoned in an unfamiliar location in London. The police subsequently confirmed that the attacker had directly accessed his encrypted wallet after forcibly logging into his Revolut account.
