But once people are in crypto, a lot of the value that they receive and create is due to the fact that they've now been onboarded into a borderless and permisionless financial system. In many parts of the world, it's hard to get a loan. Hard to get your hands on currencies outside of your home country's. Hard to put your capital to work to earn yield. Defi allows for all of this and more. It's not enough merely to onboard people to web3 gaming. We must introduce them to Defi to complete the flywheel. Axie was only made possible by the invention of AMMS. Defi innovation and adoption is actually a key leading indicator of web3 gaming adoption. Right now, Defi is not as useful as it will be in the future. Why? Because interest rates are artificially high at the moment, meaning you can, in many countries, earn ~5% in your bank account. But this cannot last as high interest rates are also skyrocketing government interest expenditures as a percentage of budgets.
