Villeroy de Galhau has been publicly criticizing Trump's policies. Even before Trump's inauguration in January, Villeroy de Galhau was one of the earliest economists to express concerns about Trump and his policies. On January 15th, he said, "I believe that the statements we sometimes hear in the United States about non bank institutions, various funds lacking regulation, or cryptocurrency assets lacking regulation can jeopardize financial stability." Earlier this week, Villeroy de Galhau stated that Trump's trade war and economic policies are "tragedies for the US economy.
