Honourable Members,   On 8 February 2025, there was a Joint Summit of the Heads of State and Government of the East African Communityand SADC in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, to deliberate on the security situation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.   In that meeting, the Joint Summit directed the EAC-SADC Chiefs of Defence Forces to meet and provide technical direction on, amongst others, the immediate and unconditional ceasefire and cessation of hostilities and the re-opening of Goma Airport.   An Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government of the Organ Troika met on the 6th of March to receive an updates on the security situation in the eastern DRC.   The SADC Organ on Politics Defence and Security is responsible for promoting peace and security in the SADC region. The Organ Troika consists of a Chairperson, which is elected annually, the incoming chairperson and the outgoing chairperson.   South Africa attended the summit as one of the troop contributing countries to the SADC Mission in the DRC.   The Extraordinary Organ Troika Summit deliberated on the Report of the Defence Sub-Committee on the Review of the Mandate of the SADC Mission in the DRC.   The outcomes and recommendations from the Extraordinary Organ Troika Summit will be presented to the Extraordinary Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government to be convened soon on a date to be confirmed.   South Africa remains committed to working with fellow SADC countries to contribute to an inclusive, negotiated settlement of the conflict in the DRC. #RamaphosaQandA
